"Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs."Psalm 100:1-2
HistoryIn 1983, Pr. Thomas Abraham and his family relocated to Staten Island from Brooklyn. It was at this time that God gave him a burden for the people in his new home, and he started a weekly prayer meeting at his residence. Pr. Abraham Samuel, Pr. Itty Abraham, and several other members from New York Pentecostal Assembly Queens attended these meetings and God encouraged this group to start an outreach ministry in Staten Island. During this time many pastors from India ministered at these special meetings and enabled the pastors to develop contacts within the Indian Christian community. While Pr. Thomas Abraham and family attended the church in Queens, efforts were made to start an evening service in Staten Island. Towards the end of September 1989, a fasting prayer was conducted at Pr. Thomas Abraham's residence. During the last day of prayer he received a phone call from Pr. John Carlo (Senior Pastor at Christian Pentecostal Church) who offered him a classroom to gather in on Sunday evenings. This was the work of God. October 19, 1994, our current property on 150 Walker Street was purchased. The cooperation and support of Pr. John Carlo and CPC church was pivotal to starting a ministry in Staten Island. All of the members are grateful for this support and will always consider them true friends. In the early days of our church, Pr. Thomas Varghese served as assistant pastor and was a strong pillar of NYPA Staten Island and conducive towards gaining souls for Christ. Pr. Philip Chacko was ordained in NYPA Staten Island on May 19, 1996 and is currently ministering in New City, NY. Pr. Reggie Abraham was ordained on March 18. 1997 and continues to serve the Lord in many ways. Pr. Abraham Eapen was ordained on September 29, 2000 and is serving as assistant pastor in NYPA Staten Island. Pr. Jesudas sustained the church through his support and ministry. N.Y.P.A Staten Island has grown to be a missionary church and Pr. Thomas Abraham currently presides over Ebenezer Gospel Mission, ministering to the population in several parts of India. New York Pentecostal Assembly Staten Island stands as a light, shining bright in this borough of New York. We pray and dedicate this church for God and his mighty works and pray that this church will be an asset to his kingdom in bringing many souls to Christ. |
